more pages still describe willpower as a draining tank

More pages describe willpower as a tank that empties — the same unsettled research, found by searching for the claim instead of the citation

Weaker than written — a claim stands, but we would now qualify it.

Twenty-eight more of these pages describe willpower as a limited resource that runs down — the “ego depletion” model — as settled fact: twenty-three in body prose, one only in a section heading, two in further-reading notes, two in subscriber-facing excerpts. The research is the same as for the earlier willpower defect: two large preregistered replication efforts found effects indistinguishable from zero, the project’s own exploratory analysis found a small significant one, and the most recent review calls the evidence inconclusive — unsettled in either direction. Most of these pages were missed the first time because that defect’s list was built from pages citing our willpower reference file and these state the claim without citing it; four were seen by that search and passed by its readers — the earlier read swept a pattern and read only its hits, so phrasings outside the pattern went unread. Each page is being rewritten to say “contested,” never “debunked,” as the daily chain reaches it. The practical advice stands on other grounds throughout.
