An NEJM review of trans fatty acids and cardiovascular disease. Its meta-analysis of prospective studies found that a 2% increase in energy intake from trans fatty acids was associated with a 23% increase in the incidence of coronary heart disease (pooled relative risk 1.23; 95% CI 1.11-1.37).
