Research paper
St-Onge MP, McReynolds A, Trivedi ZB, Roberts AL, Sy M, Hirsch J. Sleep restriction leads to increased activation of brain regions sensitive to food stimuli. Am J Clin Nutr. 2012;95(4):818-824.
Why we cite it
Provides fMRI evidence in 26 adults that sleep restriction amplifies neural responses to food cues in reward-related brain regions. A companion imaging study (Greer et al. 2013) found weaker activity in the brain’s evaluative regions after sleep loss; neither study measured eating.
