A meta-analysis of social modeling of food intake synthesizing 38 articles (67 independent effect sizes) and finding a large overall effect (r = .39), with inhibitory models appearing to suppress intake more strongly than augmenting models facilitate it — the authors’ own verb. It systematically tests moderators including sex, age, confederate presence, eating context, and concern with eating appropriately.
