Experience sampling study of 205 adults over one week, generating 7,827 reports of desire episodes in everyday life. Describes itself as ”a large-scale experience sampling study” offering ”a novel and detailed perspective” on how frequently people experience desires, how often those desires conflict with other goals, and when self-control succeeds or fails in natural settings. Its abstract finds that desires ”are frequent, variable in intensity, and largely unproblematic”, and that desire, conflict, resistance and success were moderated by personality and by situational and interpersonal factors ”such as alcohol consumption, the mere presence of others”.
