Layman DK, Anthony TG, Rasmussen BB, Adams SH, Lynch CJ, Brinkworth GD, Davis TA. Defining meal requirements for protein to optimize metabolic roles of amino acids. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. 2015 Jun;101(6):1330S-1338S. doi:10.3945/ajcn.114.084053
Why we cite it
Multi-author review, a supplement paper from Protein Summit 2.0, funded by beef, dairy and egg industry bodies (the authors declare no conflict), examining amino acids as metabolic signals. It reports that ”new research suggests” benefits to at least 20–30 g protein per meal, and older adults’ needs of ≥1.0 g/kg/day. The older-adult meal threshold it names is >20 g protein containing >2.2 g leucine. It argues for redistributing protein across meals.
