Why we cite it
A 1998 review of the leptin system by its discoverer. It describes leptin, ”a hormone secreted by adipose tissue”, and its receptor as ”integral components” of the system regulating fuel stores and energy balance, and it reviews leptin’s role in obesity. The leptin-resistance account (high levels, impaired signalling, limited effect of supplementation) is set out in Friedman’s 2016 retrospective.
