The effects of intermittent or continuous energy restriction on weight loss and metabolic disease risk markers: a randomised trial in young overweight women. Why we cite it
A randomised comparison of intermittent energy restriction (IER: two very-low-calorie days a week) with continuous energy restriction (CER) at the same 25% overall restriction, over six months, in 107 premenopausal overweight or obese women. It is the trial behind that Perspective’s reference 45, and its own adherence data run against the Perspective’s reading of it: the paper reports IER as ”no easier to adhere to than CER”, with adherence to the two-day regimen falling after the first month and fewer IER than CER women planning to continue.
