Why we cite it

Provides the primary empirical validation of intuitive eating as a measurable psychological construct. The IES-2 is the standard research instrument for studying intuitive eating, validated across 2,600 participants (1,405 women, 1,195 men) in three studies. Establishes the four-factor structure of intuitive eating and demonstrates that intuitive eating predicts psychological well-being beyond the mere absence of eating disorder symptoms — i.e., it is a positive attribute, not just the lack of a negative one. Distinct from Tribole & Resch’s Intuitive Eating book (cie01), which popularized the concept; this paper provides the empirical measurement framework.
