Hagger MS, Luszczynska A. Implementation intention and action planning interventions in health contexts: state of the research and proposals for the way forward. Appl Psychol Health Well Being. 2014;6(1):1-47.
Why we cite it
A comprehensive 47-page review of implementation intentions and action planning interventions in health behavior contexts, examining definition, format, mechanisms, and design issues. The key value for the project is the evidence-based prescription for what makes planning interventions work: adopt “if-then” plans, use salient situational cues, provide examples rather than relying on user-generated plans, use guided planning, and include booster sessions. This directly supports the trigger identification companion (289): identifying triggers is the first step, but linking those triggers to specific alternative responses through structured if-then plans is what converts trigger awareness into behavior change.
