Represents the modern evidence-based approach to U.S. dietary guidance. The DGAC reviews the scientific literature and produces recommendations that inform (but do not dictate) the official Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This 2015 report was notable for several landmark shifts: the first quantitative limit on added sugars, the removal of dietary cholesterol as a nutrient of concern, the elimination of the total fat cap, and the first-ever consideration of environmental sustainability in dietary guidance — though Congress blocked the sustainability recommendations from appearing in the final policy document.
