Why we cite it

Laboratory experiment providing direct evidence that watching food-related television affects food choice. Among the first studies to isolate the media-food exposure effect in a controlled setting: participants who watched a cooking show consumed significantly more chocolate candy than those who watched a nature show, even after controlling for hunger, dietary restraint, and food preferences. The effect was specific to indulgent foods (candy), not overall caloric intake.
