Why we cite it

Large nationally representative cross-sectional study (n=7,356, CSFII 1994–1996) providing population-level evidence that lower dietary energy density is associated with lower energy intake despite greater food weight consumed, and that normal-weight adults have lower-energy-dense diets than obese adults — consistent in free-living persons with what laboratory studies had shown experimentally (this read ”confirming” until 2026-09-02: a cross-sectional survey tests whether an experimental finding holds outside the lab; it does not confirm it). The rest of this section is a model and the change is one word — it names the design and the sample in its first clause, and uses is associated with throughout, which is why the reach was visible at all.
