Why we cite it
Provides mechanistic evidence from an animal model that voluntary exercise improves central nervous system leptin sensitivity through a pathway independent of fat mass reduction. The critical experimental design — comparing exercised mice with calorie-restricted mice matched for fat mass — shows, in these mice, that exercise does something calorie restriction alone did not: restore leptin’s ability to reduce body weight and activate leptin receptor-positive neurons in the ventromedial hypothalamus.
