Research paper

Bushman BJ, DeWall CN, Pond RS Jr, Hanus MD. Low glucose relates to greater aggression in married couples. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. 2014 Apr;111(17):6254-7. doi:10.1073/pnas.1400619111. PMID: 24733932.

Why we cite it

Provides the first ecological study linking daily blood glucose levels to aggressive impulses and behaviour within married couples over 21 days, using both diary measures (voodoo doll task) and a lab aggression paradigm (noise blast task). Relevant to this project because it demonstrates that blood sugar is not just about energy — it directly affects how people treat those closest to them, making meal regularity a relationship issue as well as a health issue.
