Why we cite it

Systematic review published in JAMA examining the association between habitual coffee consumption and type 2 diabetes risk across 15 epidemiological studies. Quantitative analysis of 9 cohort studies (193,473 participants, 8,394 diabetes cases) found a substantial, consistent inverse association: 35% lower risk at 6+ cups/day (RR 0.65) and 28% lower risk at 4-6 cups/day (RR 0.72). The association held for both men and women. Published in one of the highest-impact medical journals. Relevant to companion 383 (the-coffee-station) as evidence that coffee consumption, independent of additions like sugar and cream, has metabolic health benefits.
