Hunger isn’t linear—it’s rhythmic. Research by Frecka and Mattes found ghrelin spikes occur at habitual meal times regardless of whether you’ve eaten—the hunger is real but clock-driven. When you skip a meal, ghrelin rises, peaks, then falls again. The body doesn’t escalate indefinitely. Additionally, as the body switches from glucose-burning to fat-burning, initial hunger often diminishes. Wait out a hunger spike during fasting and it passes in 20-30 minutes.
