Gastric emptying of a solid meal is accelerated by the removal of dietary fibre naturally present in food. Gut. 1995;36(6):825-830. doi:10.1136/gut.36.6.825. PMID: 7615267. PMCID: PMC1382616.

Why we cite it

Demonstrated experimentally that removing naturally occurring fiber from a meal accelerates gastric emptying by approximately 46 minutes, increases the glycemic response, and causes hunger to return more rapidly — in eight healthy subjects. It is evidence on emptying and the return of hunger, not on satiety: the paper measured satiety and fullness hourly and found ”No difference”. (Corrected 2026-09-10 from ”providing direct mechanistic evidence for fiber’s role in satiety” — the overstatement this record’s own Verification depth flagged in `kfi01` on 2026-08-30 and left standing here.)
