Landmark human RCT demonstrating that fructose and glucose have fundamentally different metabolic effects at equal calorie levels. Over 10 weeks at 25% of energy intake, fructose — but not glucose — increased visceral fat, reduced insulin sensitivity, raised atherogenic lipid markers, and increased hepatic de novo lipogenesis. This is the key human trial proving that the type of sugar matters, not just the calories, and that fructose specifically drives the metabolic syndrome cluster.
