Why we cite it

Large-sample survey study (N=552) identifying trait-level predictors of emotional eating. Demonstrates that boredom proneness and difficulties in emotion regulation are both independent predictors — not just state boredom but a stable personality trait (boredom proneness) predicts who is susceptible. These variables simultaneously predicted eating in response to boredom, other negative emotions, and external cues, suggesting that emotion regulation skills may be a common pathway linking boredom vulnerability to eating behavior.
