Why we cite it
Foundational Pediatrics review establishing how children’s eating behaviours develop through the interplay of genetic predispositions and environmental learning. Relevant to this project because it shows that children are born with functional self-regulation of energy intake but this can be disrupted by parental feeding practices — stringent controls paradoxically increase preferences for restricted foods and override internal hunger/satiety cues, which has lifelong implications for eating behaviour.
