Second edition of the foundational 1985 work on relapse prevention. Provides the Abstinence Violation Effect (AVE) — the cognitive mechanism by which a single lapse escalates to full relapse through internal attribution and all-or-nothing thinking. The library’s synthesis, not a sourced finding: the AVE parallels Polivy & Herman’s “what-the-hell effect” in dieting.
